A Cautious Return to Twitter
I’m back on Twitter. For perhaps the fifth or sixth time in my life. Every time I’ve deactivated an account in the past, it felt good. I swore I wouldn’t make another one again.
And yet, here we are.
Why?
I’ve been A/B testing my analytics on Instagram and LinkedIn. Now I’m introducing Twitter for A/B/C testing.
I’m fascinated by Twitter’s evolution. A lot’s changed around here since I last logged on. I’d like to see how it can enhance my business.
Some of my clients ask me about Twitter and whether or not they should be active on the platform. I always feel the need to be more educated on this front.
I want to stay further connected with Cincinnati news and content. I’ve fallen in love with the city, and having made half a dozen Skyline dips since moving here, I feel a burgeoning loyalty.
I feel behind the times with arts, entertainment and pop culture. I’ve built an entertainment bubble that now makes me feel old. I don’t recognize the majority of new celebrities and figures now. Combined with the occasional backache and bedtime by 10 p.m., it’s easy to see why I feel…aged.
How is it different this time?
I’m curating my follows and likes towards industry news and thought leadership. Topics include marketing, solopreneurship, #TheGreatResignation, copywriting, brand management and related subject matter. I’m also eyeing platforms and publications that are on my byline bucket list.
I’m even more carefully curating my follows and likes that appeal to our better digital angels — not taking the #cancelculture bait and not jumping on the rhetoric bandwagon. The urge to be relevant and feel validated via likes and follows through fiery, up-to-the-second tweets drove me crazy. There can be a different, better use of the platform.
I intend to observe and then engage. Listen first, speak second.
Wish me luck, friends! And give me a follow if you feel so inclined.
